Slow Home Report – June 27, 2007
This week the topic is making a difference. We talk about co-housing as a small scale alternative to standard suburban development and the website worldchanging.com with its message of empowered solutions. We have the second of our SlowHomeTV interviews with Tim McDonald and Howard Steinberg, of the Philadelphia firm Onion Flats as well as an interview with Felix Schneider who talks about his line of Swiss made fibre cement garden planters. In Folio we have 6 of these Green Form planters as well as four new housing projects by the Pittsburgh based architects Edge Studio.

Trailer from the film ”Voices of Cohousing – Building Villages in the City”
AWARD WINNER at the 34th Ekotopfilm festival 2007. One of today’s biggest paradoxes, is that half of the world’s population lives in city, yet many do not know their neighbours… Imagine 20 or 30 households: each has its own dwelling, but they all share some common rooms and activities. In that sense, cohousing makes urban life easier and more fun for both adults and children, while preserving a high level of privacy. This documentary, based on interviews conducted in 14 cohousings shows that another city life is possible! For more info www.notsocrazy.net
